Rowan Winter Vintage, definitely on trend!

This amazing pattern b rowan winter vintage ook, in collaboration with the designer Kaffe Fassett, jumps out at you. The vivid colours on the scarf are so striking. Rowan have definitely dug out all the brights for this pattern book. The book comes with 6 patterns, all using Rowans Felted Tweed.

Kaffe Fassett has dedicated the last 50 years of his life to the world of Knitting, Needlepoint and Patchwork. He also works with other mediums such as paint, mosaic, as well as designing ready-to-wear fashion garments. He has designed amazingly bold, statement pieces for this patterns book. I am sure you will agree some lovely ideas to inspire you to get the needles out.

Kaffe Fassett

Fairisle knitting

The technique used in some of the patterns throughout the book is know as Fairisle knitting. This is when several colours are worked repeatedly across the row, stranding the yarn not in use, loosely behind the stitches being worked. It makes a fabulous effect and gives your makes a nice thickness.

The Wool

Felted Tweed DK is a wonderful pre-felted yarn, with a tweedy look, made of a beautiful blend of merino wool, alpaca and viscose. One thing to be carefully of, is to ensure you follow washing instructions, as incorrect washing might cause it to felt further, which is not what you want to happen, when you have invested time and money in to a project.

I had a chance to look though the patterns and have picked a few of my favourites…

Sampler Scarf

My first pick must be the front cover, sampler scarf. The scarf contains 13 colours and I would say for the more experienced knitter, with an understanding of Fairisle knitting! The scarf is an impressive 75 inches long, so a good winter warmer. It is not going to be the most affordable scarf you have ever made, but I think well worth the investment. All the lovely comments your going to get when you are out and about will be well worth it. A talking piece if ever I saw one!

Shaded diamonds

This luxurious jumper is made up of strategically placed diamonds, to give a very pretty overall pattern. Again, a colourful make, but it would be a statement jumper. As the wool contains alpaca, you know it is going to be soft and warm. The perfect piece for the winter months. This one is suitable for all ages, so a great gift for the teenagers in your life as well.

Contrast squares

For those not so rowan contrast squares bold with their colours this could be the one for you. This geometric square style wrap would be great paired with jeans and knee-high boots. Of course, you could do it in any colour you wished but it does look fab in the navy and white.
